こんにちは！ 今回の薬局英会話講座は 第9回「副作用について確認する（Checking for Side Effects）」 です。 お薬をお渡しした後、患者さんが変わったことがないか聞くのは薬剤師さんの大切な役割です。 2回目の来局や、継続してお薬を飲んでいる患者さんに「体調はどうですか？」とスムーズに聞けるよう、実際の薬局で使える英語表現を練習しましょう。
👩⚕️ スタッフ側の基本フレーズ
① “Did you notice any side effects from this medicine?” 👉「このお薬を飲んで、何か変わったことはありませんでしたか？」 🔸 “Side effects” = 副作用。一番ストレートで分かりやすい聞き方です。
② “Did this medicine make you sleepy?” 👉「このお薬で、眠くなったりしませんでしたか？」 🔸 “make + 人 + 形容詞” で「（薬が）人を～の状態にさせる」という便利な表現。
③ “Have you experienced any problems with this medication?” 👉「このお薬で何か問題はありませんでしたか？」 🔸 “experience” を使うと少し丁寧な響きになります。
④ “Did it upset your stomach?” 👉「胃の調子が悪くなったりしませんでしたか？」 🔸 “upset stomach” は胃痛や吐き気など、お腹の不調全般に使えます。
⑤ “If the symptoms persist, please stop taking it and see a doctor.” 👉「もし症状が続くようなら、服用をやめて医師に相談してください」 🔸 “persist” = （悪い状態が）しつこく続く、という意味です。

① “I felt a little bit dizzy.” 👉「少しめまいがしました」
② “It makes me very thirsty.” 👉「すごく喉が渇くんです」
③ “I got a rash on my arm.” 👉「腕に発疹（ブツブツ）が出ちゃって」
④ “Is this normal?” 👉「これって普通のこと（よくあること）ですか？」
⑤ “No, everything was fine.” 👉「ううん、全部大丈夫でした」

Pharmacist (Male): Good afternoon, Ms. Smith. You are here for a refill of your painkiller, right?
Patient (Female): Yes, that’s right. My back pain is still bothering me a bit.

Patient: Well, actually… it sometimes upsets my stomach. I feel a bit of heartburn after taking it.

🗣️ 重要表現と文法のポイント
- Make + 人 + 形容詞：「（人を）～の状態にさせる」。薬を主語にして副作用を尋ねる時によく使います（例：Make you sleepy）。
- Upset stomach：「胃の不調」。痛み、吐き気、不快感などを含んだ便利な言葉です。
- Discontinue：「（使用などを）中止する」。Stopよりも医学的でフォーマルな響きがあり、患者さんに信頼感を与えます。
- Persist：「（症状などが）持続する」。悪い状態が続くときに使います（例：If symptoms persist）。
- Empty stomach：「空腹時」。食前や、何も食べていない状態のことです。
